Beryl Love is executive editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal and RGJ Media, where he led the newsroom’s transformation from a traditional, print focused operation to a “local information center” that delivers news and information across multiple print and digital platforms.
Love has been with the Gannett Co., parent of the Reno Gazette-Journal, for 12 years. Prior to joining the Gazette-Journal in the fall of 2006, he worked at the Cincinnati Enquirer, where he held several newsroom positions and developed new publications and Web sites as general manager of the Enquirer’s magazine division.
Michelle Ponto, executive producer of interactive/social media at News10 in Sacramento
Fifteen-year journalism vet Michelle Ponto’s resume includes work for The New York Times, CBS News in Memphis and Houston, ABC News, Discovery Channel, Advantage Steel Magazine, ComputerWorld Magazine and Fool.com.
Sacramento-based Ponto has has interviewed award-winning chefs, sports heroes, doctors pioneering new medical treatments and celebrities like Beyonce and Gloria Gaynor. She is also the co-author of a men’s fitness book and is working on her second book entitled, Going Solo. She is currently a web journalist and the Executive Producer of Interactive & Social Media for News10, the local ABC station.
Beryl and Michelle will be joined by Colleen Dalton, of Northstar-at-Tahoe, to discuss how to best define success when using different technologies, as well as how to best integrate social tools into your marketing and sales efforts. They’ll explore different case studies on small, medium and large businesses and the limitations, challenges and opportunities with using different tools, such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.

As an executive with 15 years of experience in ski, hospitality, adventure travel and tourism, Colleen combines passion for the outdoors with an instinct for emerging technologies in online marketing. Colleen’s digital career began in 1993, measuring digital reproduction quality for Advertising Operations at USA Today. Today, she blogs for Northstar’s Environmental Action Team when she’s not Checking-in to one of her favorite Social APPS.
Laura Cochran, content manager, Gannett
Laura Cochran, content manager for Gannett Inc., will moderate this discussion. At Gannett, Laura uses innovation methods, such as human-centered design, to unveil new business opportunities in print, digital, mobile and broadcast. These opportunities can take the form of a new product or it can be an innovative way to use existing content created by Gannett’s vast network of local and national media properties. Prior to joining Gannett, she spent three years at washingtonpost.com, where she led the cross-departmental coverage of Maryland, Virginia and D.C. elections.
